Sinopsis: Industry-Based Learning (IBL) has emerged as one of the most effective approaches for developing the competencies needed in tourism and hospitality. Through internships, apprenticeships, and field placements, students encounter real-world scenarios that foster problem-solving, adaptability, and communication. However, in many institutions, English learning remains confined to classroom contexts and disconnected from industry realities. This disconnection limits students’ ability to apply language skills meaningfully in the workplace.
This book, “Best Practices in English–IBL Integration: Bridging Classroom and Industry for Tourism English Mastery” is born out of a research initiative conducted at Politeknik Pariwisata Makassar and Politeknik Pariwisata Lombok. It seeks to bridge the gap between academic instruction and professional practice by providing an empirically grounded framework for integrating English proficiency development within Industry-Based Learning (IBL) programs. The study’s findings reveal that when students use English meaningfully during their industry placements, they not only improve their language skills but also gain confidence, intercultural awareness, and professional competence.
The book is intended for educators, curriculum developers, policymakers, and researchers who are committed to improving the quality of English instruction in vocational and higher education settings. It provides both theoretical foundations and practical insights—illustrating how collaboration between institutions and the tourism industry can transform learning into an authentic, language-rich experience.
